Safety & Signaling

Safety and signaling devices are used to protect both workers and equipment. Components designed to promote plant floor safety include safety relays, safety switches, light curtains, lamps, signs, personal protective equipments, and more.

Safety relays are relays that implement a safety function, depending on the specific function that they are designed to monitor. They are typically paired with other safety devices to relay the appropriate signal to machines and controllers. For example, a light curtain can detect when a worker accesses a machine or area. That signal is sent to a safety relay, which disables the machine until the worker is no longer at risk.

In some cases personnel may be required to wear personal protective equipment, which include articles of flame resistant clothing, insulating gloves, helmets, and hoods. Personal protective equipment can protect workers from arc flash, electric shock, and other hazards. Workers should also be able identify a hazardous area or scenario with proper signage and signaling.
